Evening dressage at Misterton Club. Nash warmed up beautifully at home this evening; Popped him on the trailer to travel down to the club as it was rather a late start and the weather was not brilliant – cloudy with heavy rain showers – and I didn’t fancy hacking home in that!!
We had 15mins familiarisation/re-warm at the club and then into the arena. Nash felt very ‘bright’ and as the test went on got a little unruly! So I retired at movement 14 (out of 24). Having viewed the score sheet though, I really wish I hadn’t, as we had scored pretty well with quite a few 7’s… We were last to go, so the judge allowed us to carry on working in the arena until he settled down – which did take a bit of time!!! Naughty boy!
POST SCRIPT – discussed this with Jane Peberdy – she said that, frequently, as a judge they are disappointed when riders retire – especially at the lower levels – as quite often the horse looks better when a bit hotter – more uphill and shows greater presence. More learning for me!!
Judge’s comments:
“Quirky (?) horse. Forwards thinking but just too unsettled to stay on the aids. More marks to come. RETIRED”
